I used to hate beige joggers. For years. Grey was fine. Black was fine. Beige joggers were surrender. Joggers you defaulted to when there was nothing else clean. My coworker Priya wore hers once, whilst collecting a parcel from the Croydon sorting office. She came in later and told me some random guy had asked her where she’d bought them from. That’s when it clicked how beige works in a way that grey just won’t. They look purposeful. Curated, not “I didn’t feel like getting dressed”.
The best ones master the tone. Something nutty but not sandy pink, heaven forbid or that yellow sand colour that looks like they’ve been bleached in a sink. Fabric matters more for joggers than most people care to think.
Baggy enough and they’ll creep up your legs everywhere you don’t want them by lunchtime. Chunky enough and your legs won’t fit through the material to get them off over your thighs after being sat with the radiator on for an hour. The ones that fit well enough sit tight enough that the material actually has some weight to it. They have an ankle cuff, rather than hanging down your shoe. And a waistband that stays flat.
Top wise beige goes with everything. Literally. It upscales all your other purchases into a higher price category. Which is probs doing most of the work here.
White shirt, top button done up, top half tucked in and you look like you put effort in. Throw a beige sweater and you look booked. Navy and they make you feel snug as a bug. Add a pair of Chelsea boots and they’re not just for staying at home in. Muddy trainers and you’re fully equip for staying at home.
Gold jewellery matches beige better than any silver will. Trust me. Don’t overthink it. Wear it.
They’ll take you anywhere from smart-casual to I-couldn’t-be-bothered casual. Airport runs. Working from your favourite coffee shop. Whenever Mumford and Sons taught us Sunday is “ wash day”. That nice dinner you want to look smart for but not look like your out on a date. They are never going to be suit-compatible, and unless your office is strictly business they’re probs your work wardrobe too. But anything in-between. I spent too long knocking them, let this be my peace offering.
