Occasion wise, this is the category that has to earn its keep across very different moments. The villa holiday where you’re horizontal for a week and want something that photographs well from a sun lounger. The city break with a rooftop pool for one afternoon, where you need something that survives a lift ride and a lobby without feeling like fancy dress. The actual proper swim, front crawl not paddling, where you need ties that hold and a fit that doesn’t need constant checking. A good one does all three without you thinking about it twice, which, after that 2019 disaster, is genuinely all I ask of it.
