I spent about three years convinced beige was a colour for people who’d given up. Styling wise, this is the dress that wants you to bring the personality, because it isn’t going to shout for you. Belt it if you want a waist, leave it loose if you want to look like you’re not trying, both are correct depending on the day. Trainers make it look like you’ve somewhere to be, a decent boot and a jacket thrown over the top takes it into evening without any drama, and gold jewellery against beige does something quietly excellent that I can’t fully explain but will defend to anyone.
Occasion wise it’s doing more work than people give it credit for. Office, obviously, it reads as put together without trying too hard. Lunch that might turn into drinks. A wedding where you don’t want to compete with the bride but also refuse to disappear into the background. And honestly, on a day when you’ve got nothing left in you to decide, it’s the one thing you can put on without a second thought and still leave the house looking like you meant it.
