I spent three years thinking tiered meant “will make me look like a maypole” and avoided the whole category on principle, which, having now properly worn them, feels like I owe them an apology. Styling wise, resist the urge to add more texture on top. The dress is already doing three or four things at once with all that layering, so let it be the main event. A fine gold chain, a bare leg or a sheer tight, a heel with a bit of height so the tiers have room to fall properly rather than pooling on the floor. Cropped jackets work if you’re between seasons, but the second you sit down for dinner it should come off, because that’s when the shape actually gets to do its thing.

This dress suits the nights where you want to be looked at without looking like you tried too hard for it, a first date somewhere with candles, an anniversary, the kind of dinner where you order a second glass because the evening’s going well.
