I spent a solid decade convinced sequins only came in one setting, absolutely blinding, and only suited one type of night, the sort where you regret everything by eleven. Blue changed my mind properly. There’s something about a proper, deep blue, not that navy that just reads as black under bar lighting, that makes a sequin dress feel like a colour decision rather than a costume decision. My colleague Priya caught me trying one on in a changing room once and said “that’s not even sparkly, that’s just blue with ambition,” which is genuinely the best description anyone’s given a dress in my presence.
The good ones have weight to them. Not the flimsy sequin-on-net situation that catches on every zip, tights, and passing coat button you own, the cheap sort that leaves a little confetti trail on the pavement behind you.

Keep jewellery minimal, the dress is already doing the shouting on your behalf. A flat, structured bag does more for the outfit than a clutch ever will, mostly because you’ll actually be able to hold a drink and dance at the same time, which matters more than people admit.
These aren’t an everyday dress, obviously, nobody’s wearing sequins to a Tuesday meeting. But for the actual crush of party season, birthdays with a theme nobody agreed to, and the one wedding evening do where the dress code says glam and properly means it, blue sequins earn their space in a way the bronze and gold versions never quite managed for me.
