The midi denim skirt is quietly one of the hardest working pieces in a wardrobe, and we don’t think it gets nearly enough credit for that. It sits at a length that flatters almost every height, it transitions between seasons without trying, and it pairs with things that skirts in other fabrics simply can’t touch. A chunky knit and ankle boots in October. A fitted tank and sandals in July. The same skirt, completely different register. What we’ve been focused on here is finding the ones worth actually building around, which means rejecting anything that’s too stiff, too shapeless, or too aggressively distressed. The wash matters. The waistband matters. Whether it sits properly when you move matters a great deal. Some of our favorites here are straight cuts with serious structure. Others have a slight bias that creates a much softer silhouette. All of them are versatile in the way that only denim genuinely is. A great midi denim skirt is not a basic. It’s a foundation.
