I said for years that a blue biker jacket was a compromise. Black does the job, navy just apologises for it slightly, that was my whole theory, and I held onto it right up until I stood next to someone at a bar in a mid blue leather biker over a slip dress and had to admit I was completely wrong in real time. Black can look like you’re trying too hard to look tough. Blue does the tough thing without asking you to commit to it.

The good ones sit on that line between soft and sharp. You want proper leather or a leather look with enough weight that it holds a shape on its own, sleeves that taper rather than balloon, and a collar that stands up when you want it to and folds down when you don’t.

I’ve worn mine over a floral dress to a wedding reception and had someone’s aunt ask where I got it, which felt like the actual win condition for this jacket.

Occasion wise it’s the one that moves with you through an entire day without you having to think about it twice, morning coffee run, straight into work, straight into whatever happens after work. It’s not precious about weather either, mine’s been rained on, sat on trains, slung over the back of a chair in a hundred pubs, and it just gets better looking, slightly softer, slightly more yours. That’s the whole point of a biker jacket in this colour, it’s meant to look lived in, not saved for something.
