I used to think a black wrap top was just a black top with extra steps. Then I actually lived in one for a week, three different bras, two different skirts, one very ill advised attempt at tucking it into jeans that made me look like I was smuggling a cushion, and I got it. Wear it with something structured on the bottom if you want the silhouette to read as considered rather than accidental, a straight leg trouser, a pencil skirt, a good pair of dark denim. Layer a blazer over it for work without it looking like you’re trying too hard, or leave it alone under a coat for evening because the neckline’s already doing enough. Gold jewellery reads warmer against black than silver, worth knowing if you’re deciding between the two on your way out the door.
Where it earns its place is the in between occasions, the dinner that’s not quite smart, the meeting that runs into drinks, the day where you genuinely don’t know what you’re doing after five o’clock. One top, two entirely different evenings, and nobody clocks that you didn’t change. That’s the actual win here, not the styling, just the not having to think about it twice.
