Block heel or a low kitten heel, something that won’t sink two inches into a lawn the second you step off the terrace, a smaller bag you can actually carry while holding a drink and someone’s coat, and jewellery that doesn’t compete with the gap doing its own thing already. A blazer works if you need to look like you have your life together for the first hour.
A cardigan works if you’re honest about the weather.
Occasion wise, this is the dress for anything with a marquee, a receiving line, or a seating plan. Christenings with a slightly show off aunt. Summer weddings where the invite says “smart” and means “please don’t embarrass us.” Any garden party where you want to look like you dressed with intention rather than panic, while still being able to eat cake off a small plate without incident.
