A lunch that might tip into drinks. A funeral, if we are being honest, which nobody puts in styling notes but everybody ends up needing a skirt for. Christmas do, client meeting, a first date where you want to look like you tried without looking like you tried. It sits in that spot between smart and easy and never quite tips fully into either, which is exactly why it keeps earning its space back on the rail season after season, long after other things have been quietly moved to the back.
