Styling is where the v neck actually proves itself. It is the rare top that works equally well tucked into tailored trousers for the office and left loose over denim at the weekend. Layer it under a blazer and the neckline does the work a statement necklace would otherwise be doing. Wear it with a slip skirt and the same top reads as evening. Under a coat in the colder months, it avoids the bulk at the throat that a high neck creates, which matters more than most people give it credit for.
Occasion wise, this is a category that flatters the in between moments, the meeting that runs into drinks, the weekend that starts as errands and ends somewhere nicer. It photographs well, it layers without complaint, and it never looks like it is trying too hard, which is precisely the point of a good one.
