It solves that dilemma grey and black joggers pose; looking like your bottom half gave up on life and went outside wearing pyjamas the moment you step outside. It’s dark enough that it looks intentional, more like a garment than a pair of PJs, but still lightweight enough to do everything you want from a jogger.
Of course, knowing that, you’ll want the fit to be as perfect as possible too; cos the colour might be working overtime, but you don’t want your joggers falling flat at the first step. The fit is really where most joggers go wrong. You want your burgundy pair to slim down from the thigh to a cuff or ribbed ankle without bunching up at the knee and it should sit comfortably on your waist; with a real drawcord or wide elasticated waistband that won’t twist or roll down after sitting down for 30 minutes. Oh, and did I mention fabric weight matters too?
Go for a heavier French terry or brushed cotton as it will hold its shape and drape rather than cling to your hips, plus it will also take to the colour better so that the burgundy looks rich instead of flat and cheap. Bright white or shiny fabrics can often end up costume territory with that colour, and lets face it, there’s nothing tackier than that.
Now you’ve sorted the fit out, styling them correctly is just a case of lightening the load. Cream, camel and grey marl are gorgeous with burgundy because it subdues the colour slightly so your whole outfit doesn’t scream TOO MUCH! Throw on a tight black top or plain white shirt so your jeans can do the talking, then you can decide how casual you want to go with the shoes. Keep it simple with white trainers for running errands in the afternoon, or dress it up slightly by wearing a boot or loafer.
Trust me when I say these are ideal for those in between days; chasing the kids around, darting to the airport, weekend days when you want to do more than just sit around but still want to be snug as bug. When a jogger has a tailored fit and is made from a decent fabric it deserves to be worn because at least someone humming down the street will think ‘nice jeans’ not ‘wow someone’s leggings are showing’. And that’s all it’s about really; investing in a good pair of joggers.
